A lot has happened since I last blogged eh?
During my last post, I just came back to Brunei and was just being interviewed for my job. Now I have a proper job, and I've just received notice for my gaji bulan (Yay!!!).
I've done 6 months of surgery, which I love. It's fun, exciting, and lots of hard work. Very tiring. Very satisfying. And I love the independence too.
Less than one month in internal medicine, and I'm already missing surgery. Internal medicine is about spending lots of time with patients, getting to them and their diseases. Looking at every aspect of the patient. Lots of brain power. Sometimes they get better. Sometimes they don't. Try this medicine. Try that treatment. Do this test. Do that investigation. I'm bored. I want to do something more than spending lots of time using my brain. It can be quite emotionally unrewarding too. Or maybe I'm just biased :p
So yes, I can't wait to finish all my compulsory rotations and go back to surgery. Or something else.
I need a break from the hospital. I've been working for almost 7 months and only took one day off last week when my grandmother passed away.
Surprisingly, that is easier than I've anticipated. The first few days after she has passed away were really hard although we all have plenty of time to be emotionally prepared. But it gets easy very fast. For as long as I remember, my grandmother has been part of our household. We're not terribly close but close enough.
I dont know if it's because she seems to suffered so much the last few weeks before she passed away that it almost feels like a relief that the pain is gone. Or is it because I've spent so many years overseas that I no longer feel like I know her. My memories with her were few. And at times, we dont have much to say to each other.
When my maternal grandparents passes away, I was still in Calgary. I was very upset then. And now, I wonder if it's because I was so far away. And my sadness was perhaps due to my absence, not due to my memories of them.
Enough about that.
Recently, I've been watching a lot of US TV series - "House MD", "Lie to me" and "Drop dead diva". I love House. Highly recommended. I like to think of it as part of furthering my medical education :p I find that unlike HK drama, I actually learn things from english TV series. Just an opinion.
I think I should stop here. Hopefully will blog again soon :D
